Philips Norelco SensoTouch

The 1250x/40 SensoTouch by Phillips Norelco is part of the 8000 3D electric razor series and it offers an impressively fast shaving time, durable housing, an ergonomic design, and a variety of features that help to provide a much smoother shave compared to competing models. This razor is very beginner-friendly, thanks to its unique razor system that’s designed to prevent ingrown hairs and razor burn.

Our Verdict
This electric razor is very beginner friendly, thanks to its intuitive controls and the razor’s ability to easily follow the contours of the scalp in a single pass. The razor’s ergonomic design and the three rotary style blades work together to provide a gentle, smoother shave. However, the shorter battery life and the lack of a self-cleaning feature can be a downside for the traveler. Overall, the SensoTouch offers a solid performance, due to the pivoting head design that prevents the blades from pulling hair or causing scalp irritation.

Read on to learn more about the razor’s unique blade system and find out what makes this razor a must-have for the beginner.

Overview and Features

The SensoTouch razor is said to be one of Philips Norelco’s more advanced razors to date. This razor features a rotary head design that improves its ability to easily glide along the contours of the head. However, for some, using a rotary head shaver can be difficult, especially in the shower. Competing models like the Braun Series 9 9090cc Men’s Electric Foil Shaver/Electric Razor feature a foil razor head that’s said to be more forgiving and beginner-friendly because you can use sideways and back and forth motions when you shave. With this rotary razor, you must use circular motions in order to prevent the razor from pulling out hair or causing scalp irritation. However, this razor scored high in terms of shaving quality. While for some, using a rotary razor in the shower can be challenging, with a little practice, you’ll find that the razor’s unique blade system provides one of the smoothest shaves around, in just under five minutes.

Rotary Head Design

The razor’s three rotary heads independently flex inwards and outwards. The unique shaving block pivots to smoothly follow the contours of the scalp. The razor’s ability to conform to every type of surface including the head, neck, jawline, and chin is a big reason why this razor is one of Phillips Norelco’s top-selling models.

The Ultra Track rotary heads feature small slots that are designed to gently capture longer hair. The flat channels in the blade system will easily scoop up stray and flay lying hair. The small holes in the rotary heads work by pulling in stubble, for a cleaner shave.

Charging Time

The built-in three level battery life indicator light allows you to keep a close eye on the razor’s juice so you can always ensure your razor is charged and ready to go. The lithium-ion battery will take approximately one hour to fully charge. With a full charge, the battery has a life of fifty minutes. The razor’s detachable cord plugs directly into the charging stand.

Built-In Grooming Features

The precision trimmer is perfect for all of your facial hair grooming needs. Keep your mustache, beard, and sideburns tamed or switch to the traditional shave option for a smoother shave.

Shaving Style

This razor is approved for both wet and dry shaves. Since the razor is wet shave approved it can be used with your favorite shaving products including oils, gels, foams, and creams. You can also safely use the razor in the shower for a faster, smoother shave.

Maintenance

This model doesn’t come with a cleaning station, which you’ll commonly find on higher priced models. If you primarily use wet shaves, keeping the razor clean can be a matter of simply rinsing off the razor’s head before charging it. For dry shaves, use the included cleaning brush to remove hair out of the rotary heads after each use.

Can I Use This Razor for My Head and Facial Hair?

Yes, the razor’s rotary design can easily handle longer hair. The razor also doubles as a trimmer, so it can be used to tame your beard, trim your mustache, or clean up sideburns.

Is this Razor Better for Wet or Dry Shaves?

The razor can handle each style of shaving equally well. However, if you’ve never shaved your head before, we recommend a wet shave. How Often do the Blades Need to be Replaced?
